What to Expect During a Reiki Session

Will I need to undress for my Reiki session?

No, there is no disrobing required for a Reiki treatment. Reiki energy will go through clothing. Some people prefer to loosen tight or uncomfortable fitting clothing and remove their shoes.

Will I be covered during the session?

Since you are not undressed, a cover sheet or blanket is used for warmth only if needed.

What should I do during the Reiki treatment?

Reiki sessions for most people are a very inward experience. It's a good time to relax and receive what this life force energy makes available. Most of the time receivers are in a quiet, receptive state so that they may allow that experience to deepen.

What will the session feel like?

This varies considerably, depending on the person. During a Reiki treatment my hands are placed in a particular position and rest there without moving for about five minutes. After that time I move on to the next position. Everyone will experience the session a little differently depending on how your energetic system is balanced.

What parts of my body are treated in the session?

In a traditional Reiki treatment there are a total of 14 hand postions for the face and head, front of your torso, and back. Areas of special need are also included and vary from person to person.

How long will the session last?

Most Reiki appoinments last about an hour and ten minutes, although sometimes more time may be needed.

What is the treatment room like?

The treatment room is is a safe, soothing environment that's kept warm and quiet. The room is air conditioned during the warmer summer months. I use the bodyCushion tm from Body Support Systems for your added comfort. There is an extensive selection of compact discs offering relaxing, contemplative music.
